If you don't see the SMS option when creating an event, please contact support@sensehq.co with the area code you'd like to use for sending SMS messages. We will then assign your account a phone number, from which events will be sent.
Once you have a phone number and the SMS feature enabled, you can create an event that will be sent out as an SMS message to the intended audience.
Note: you will not be able to change your event type from SMS to Email and vice versa once it has been created. If you would like to change the event type, you will have to create a new one
There are some important things to be aware of when using SMS:
- To send an SMS using Sense, you should ensure that your active consultants are aware that they will receive SMS messages from you
- The first time a user receives an SMS from you, they will get a brief intro message that informs them who the messages are from and how to opt out
- Users can opt out of SMS at any time using "stop words" such as STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE. You will see a user's opt in status on their user page under Opt Out Of SMS. A user can also resubscribe to messages by texting START to the number.
As a best practice with using SMS, you should only send texts to people with whom your agency has an active relationship; for example, consultants on an active placement. In addition, SMS messages should only be used for trigger based transactional messages ("Your job at Client starts tomorrow") as opposed to mass marketing messages ("Please check our job page!").
When used properly, SMS can be a powerful tool to ensure critical messages are read; but if it's overused, you may find people opting out at a higher rate.
