Add Referral Links to Workflow Messages

Overview

You can include referral program links in workflow messages to encourage recipients to submit candidate referrals.

Referral links can be added to Email and SMS communications in workflows using the Referral module.

When configuring the referral link, you can choose to:

  • Send a link to a specific referral program, or
  • Automatically map recipients to a referral program using a Program Identifier

Dynamic mapping ensures recipients receive the most relevant referral program based on configured identifier values.

Before You Begin

Before adding referral links to workflows:

  • At least one referral program must exist.
  • To use dynamic mapping, referral programs must have a Program Identifier configured.
  • You must have permission to create or edit workflows.

Configure a Program Identifier (Optional)

Program Identifiers allow workflows to automatically send the correct referral program to recipients.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Referral Programs.
  2. Create a new referral program or open an existing one.
  3. In the Program Details tab, locate Unique program identifier.
  4. Enable the toggle.
  5. Click Select Variable.
  6. Choose the variable used to identify the program.
  7. Select the value(s) associated with the referral program.
  8. Save the referral program.

     

Each referral program must have a unique identifier value.

Add a Referral Link to a Workflow

You can add referral links to Email or SMS workflow communications.

Step 1 — Open the Workflow

  1. Open an existing workflow or create a new workflow.
  2. Add an Email or SMS communication node.

Step 2 — Insert the Referral Link

For Email

  1. Open the Email editor.
  2. In the content panel, locate the Referral module.
  3. Drag the Referral module into the email body.
  4. Click Select Referral Program.

For SMS

  1. Open the SMS Content editor.
  2. Click Sense Modules.
  3. Select Referral Link.

The Referral Links configuration window opens.

Choose the Referral Link Type

In the Referral Links configuration window, choose how the referral program should be shared.

Option 1 — Use a Specific Program

Choose this option if all recipients should receive the same referral program.

  1. Select Use a Specific Program.
  2. Choose the referral program.
  3. Select the link type.
  4. Confirm the configuration.

Option 2 — Dynamically Map Program by Identifier

Choose this option when recipients should receive different referral programs based on identifier values.

  1. Select Dynamically Map Program by Identifier.
  2. Choose the identifier field.
  3. Review the preview of matching referral programs.

When the workflow runs:

  • Recipients receive the referral program that matches their identifier value.
  • If no matching program is found, the default company referral program link is sent.
  1. Confirm the configuration.
  2. Save the communication node.

Troubleshooting

No referral programs appear when configuring referral links

Ensure at least one referral program exists and is mapped to an identifier.

Dynamic mapping does not show programs

Verify that:

  • Referral programs have Program Identifiers configured
  • The selected identifier matches values configured in referral programs.
