Why This Matters
In a fast-moving environment, even a small change—like fixing a typo in an email or updating a discount in an SMS—shouldn’t require taking your workflow offline. Until now, making such edits meant deactivating the entire workflow, which caused unnecessary delays and disruptions.
With Live Editing for Active Workflows, that changes. You can now update content and select settings directly within an active workflow—no shutdown required. Think of it like updating a live broadcast while it’s on air. The show keeps going; only the specific part gets refreshed.
This feature brings speed, flexibility, and a smoother experience for both users and recipients.
What’s Live Editable: Understanding Sync vs. Async
Sync Edits (Now Supported)
These are straightforward changes that take effect immediately. When you make a sync edit, it updates for all new recipients who pass through that node in real time.
Common examples:
- Fixing typos in email subjects or body
- Updating SMS content
- Editing voice call script variables
Async Edits (Coming Soon)
These are structural changes that require background analysis and can impact the entire flow. To maintain stability, these edits are not yet allowed on live workflows.
Examples include:
- Adding or deleting nodes
- Modifying Filter or Split logic
- Adjusting Delay durations
How to Edit an Active Workflow
1. Enter Edit Mode
On any live workflow, click “Edit Workflow”. Editable nodes will be highlighted. Tooltips may guide you on what’s editable.
2. Select a Node
Click the node you want to modify—like an SMS or Candidate Evaluation node. The configuration panel will appear with editable tabs (Settings, Content, etc.).
3. Make Your Changes
Edit the fields you need. Once a change is detected, the Save button activates. A blue banner will remind you that you're editing an active workflow and that updates may take a moment to reflect for recipients.
4. Save the Node
Click Save. You’ll see a loading spinner followed by a confirmation. Your update is now live for that node.
5. Edit More Nodes (Optional)
You can continue editing other nodes in the same session without losing progress.
6. Exit Edit Mode
When you’re done, click “Done” or “Exit Edit Mode”. Confirm to exit. The workflow returns to its regular active state.
What You Can and Can’t Edit
Editable (Sync Edits)
| Node Type | Editable Components | Example Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Sender, Subject, CC/BCC, Body content and images | Fix a subject line typo or swap in a new promo image | |
| SMS | Send From, Message Content (Send To is not editable) | Update the discount offer in a campaign message |
| Voice / Voiceflow | Configuration settings except recipient fields | Change Call From number or tweak call flow variables |
| Candidate Evaluation | Input fields, Job description, transcript source | Update outdated job details to improve screening accuracy |
| Workflow Settings | Frequency limits, Blackout dates | Apply a frequency cap to reduce over-messaging |
Not Editable (Async or Structural Edits)
- Adding or deleting any node
- Rewiring node connections
- Changing Filter, Split, or For Each logic
- Modifying Delay durations or trigger schedules
These edits affect workflow logic and will be supported in a future update.
Examples in Action
Fixing SMS Content on the Fly
An SMS campaign mentions a 15% discount, but leadership decides to bump it to 20%.
→ Enter Edit Mode, select the SMS node, update the content, and save.
→ All new recipients will now receive the updated 20% offer—no downtime, no delays.
Updating Candidate Evaluation Criteria
Your Candidate Evaluation node includes a job description that’s no longer valid.
→ Enter Edit Mode, open the Candidate Evaluation node, and update the job description.
→ New candidates will now be evaluated against the correct job profile, improving quality.
Final Notes & Best Practices
- One Editor at a Time: Only one user can edit a workflow at a time to avoid conflicts.
- Content, Not Structure: You can update what a node does, but not how the workflow flows.
- Changes Apply to New Executions Only: Updates take effect for recipients who hit the node after your edit is saved.
- Locked Fields Stay Locked: Greyed-out fields are intentionally restricted for this release.
