Overview
The is within radius of operator lets you route candidates, clients, or other entities in a Path based on how close they are to a reference ZIP code. This allows you to target a geographic area without manually listing every ZIP code in it.
When should I use radius-based ZIP code targeting?
Use radius-based targeting when you want a Path to include entities located within a certain distance of a specific ZIP code. For example, to route candidates who live within 25 miles of your office into one Path, enter the office's ZIP code and select a 25-mile radius instead of manually adding every nearby ZIP code.
This is especially useful when you want to:
- Create location-based workflow branches.
- Target an area that covers many ZIP codes.
- Avoid manually maintaining long ZIP code lists.
- Include nearby locations based on distance rather than exact ZIP code matches.
How it works
To configure a ZIP code condition in a Path:
- Select the is within radius of operator.
- Enter the reference ZIP code.
- Select the radius you want to target.
- Review the ZIP codes included within the selected radius.
- Optionally exclude specific ZIP codes from the calculated area.
- Optionally add additional ZIP codes that fall outside the radius.
- Save the condition.
Sense automatically calculates the ZIP codes covered by the selected radius, so you don't need to enter each one manually. Once saved, entities whose ZIP code falls within the defined area can follow that Path.
Example: route candidates based on proximity
Say you're building a workflow for candidates within 20 miles of a particular office. Instead of creating a Path condition with dozens of individual ZIP codes, you can:
- Enter the office's ZIP code as the reference location.
- Select a 20-mile radius.
- Review the ZIP codes included within that radius.
- Exclude any locations that shouldn't be included.
- Add specific ZIP codes outside the radius if there are exceptions.
Candidates whose ZIP code falls within the configured area can then be routed through that Path.
FAQs
How is this different from exact ZIP code matching?
Previously, Path conditions only supported exact-match ZIP code operators, so targeting candidates across multiple nearby ZIP codes meant adding each one manually. With is within radius of, you define the geographic area using a reference ZIP code and a distance instead — reducing configuration effort and making location-based Path conditions easier to maintain.
Can I exclude specific ZIP codes from the radius?
Yes. After Sense calculates the ZIP codes within your selected radius, you can remove specific ones from the condition. For example, if your business serves candidates within 50 miles of an office but doesn't serve one area within that radius, select the 50-mile radius and then remove that area's ZIP codes. This lets you apply proximity-based targeting while accounting for business-specific exceptions.
Can I add ZIP codes outside the radius?
Yes. You can add ZIP codes that fall outside the calculated radius. For example, if you generally target candidates within 25 miles of an office but also want to include one additional location farther away, configure the 25-mile radius and add that ZIP code separately, rather than increasing the radius for everyone.
